Planning & Development: Land Use Planning

The VCOG's Regional Planning Commission is responsible for the Regional Planning Organization's planning activities as described in the Connecticut General Statutes. The Commission carries out regional land use planning initiatives for the four member municipalities including 8-3b referrals, maintaining and updating the Region's Comprehensive Plan of Conservation and Development, and other planning initiatives. The Regional Planning Commission also reviews and opines on all major transportation and capital projects to the VCOG Board. Regional Planning Commission Meeting Agenda & Minutes.

In accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section 8-35a, "Each planning area shall make a plan of development for its area of operation, showing its recommendations for the general use of the area…, in the opinion of the agency, will be beneficial to the area." The Plan of Conservation and Development is updated according to regulations outlined by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (OPM).
